The Beautiful Mess of Motherhood

Hi, I’m Megan, a single mom, software developer, and guitarist who loves jamming to music while cooking. I live in Austin, Texas, and my world pretty much revolves around my three-year-old son, Bunny. He thinks kitchen counters are drums, and sofa cushions? His stage. Most days, I’m juggling a laptop in one hand and a toddler in the other. Coffee goes cold, mornings are chaotic, and the living room floor is basically a minefield of toy cars. But somehow, in the middle of all that mess, some moments make me laugh so hard I forget how tired I am.

The Moment Everything Shifted

I never planned on being a single mom. Like a lot of people, I had this picture in my head: two parents, cozy mornings, pancakes on weekends, kids tucked into bed with bedtime stories. But, well… life had other plans. Bunny’s dad and I separated shortly after I found out I was pregnant, and suddenly I was staring at the reality of raising a tiny human on my own. No pause button. No manual. Just me. The first time I held Bunny, everything shifted. Swaddled in a soft blanket, he looked up at me with wide, curious eyes, and I felt two things at once: a fierce, overwhelming love, and a whisper of fear: Can I really do this alone?

Balancing Deadlines and Diapers

Being a techie at a start-up and a mom to a little imp with boundless energy, who somehow finds a way to make a mess in every room, is… well, it’s never easy. Working from home with Bunny around is, frankly, chaotic. Emails pile up, toy cars migrate into every corner, and deadlines? Yeah, they don’t stop for tantrums. Over time, I’ve realised that small acts of self-care, like a quiet walk, a hot shower, or jamming to my favourite music while cooking, aren’t selfish; they’re essential for keeping me sane.

From Nap Times to Narratives

I started writing in the quiet moments when Bunny finally fell asleep. It became my little lifeline, a way to make sense of long days, endless questions, and the small, messy moments that define life with a toddler. Somewhere in all of that, I found a space for honesty, laughter, and connection, a place where parents can laugh, vent, and celebrate the little victories together.
